Sabres embarrassed in Philly

Philadelphia (WKBW.com) It couldn't have started much better for the Sabres in Philadelphia. And it couldn't have ended much worse. Buffalo watched a 2-0 first period lead turn into an embarrassing 7-2 loss to the Flyers on Thursday. It was the Sabres third straight setback.

Jason Pominville gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead with his 22nd goal of the season at 5:15 of the first. Thomas Vanek then put the Sabres up 2-0 with his 21st goal at 9:30. But the final forty minutes was a totally different story.

The Flyers roared out of the gates in the second period. Maxime Talbot and Wayne Simmonds each scored in the first 3:32 of the frame, before Simmonds gave Philadelphia the 3-2 lead with a power play goal at 6:49. That tally chased Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth who was making his first start since mid-January. Enroth was replaced by Ryan Miller who, with little help from his defense, surrendered four goals in the final 32:22 of the game.

Erik Gustafsson, Talbot, Jakub Voracek all beat Miller. Scott Hartnell then finished off seven unanswered goals by the Flyers with his 27th tally at 9:25 of the third.

The Sabres host Montreal on Friday.
