Myers plays hero, Sabres beat Panthers

Sunrise, Florida (WKBW.com) Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers scored with 4.5 seconds left in overtime to lift the Buffalo Sabres over the Florida Panther 3-2 on Thursday night. The win, coupled with a Carolina loss, moved the Sabres within 2 points of 8th place in the Eastern Conference standings.



With less then 10 seconds remaining in overtime Myers skated into the Panthers zone and unleashed a wicked slap shot that beat Florida goaltender Tomas Vokoun for the game winner. Mike Weber, and Thomas Vanek scored the other goals for the Sabres. Ryan Miller made 24 saves in the win.



The Philadelphia Flyers helped the Sabres cause on Thursday by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1. The loss kept the Hurricanes at 59 points, the 10th place Sabres now have 57. 9th place Atlanta did not play on Thursday and sits at 58 points. The Sabres host the New York Islanders on Sunday.
