BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday that they have signed defenseman Tyler Myers to a seven-year extension. The deal keeps him in a Buffalo sweater through the 2018-19 season.

TSN reports the deal is worth $38.5 million with a $10 million signing bonus on July 1, 2012.

Myers was to be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2011-12 season.

The 6'8'' 21-year-old won the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year in 2010.

Last season he scored 10 goals and 27 assists.

Myers was selected in the first round, 12th overall, by the Sabres in the 2008 Entry Draft.
