Lindy Ruff Coaches in 1000th Game

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Lindy Ruff will coach his 1000th career game when the Sabres visit the New Jersey Devils Wednesday night.

Ruff has coached all 999 games up to this point with the Buffalo Sabres and will become the 18th coach in NHL history to reach the 1000 game milestone.

Ruff will tie Roger Nielson for the 17th most games coached in NHL history at 1000 and will trail Billy Reay (CHI) by 12 games for the second-most games coached with one franchise; Al Arbour (NYI) is first with 1,500.

Some other facts:

· Entering tonight’s game, Ruff is 14 wins away from passing Toe Blake for third-most wins with one franchise.

· In his 13-year head coaching career, Ruff has led the Sabres to a 487-370-142 record and a franchise-high seven postseason appearances.

· His 487 wins already rank him 17th in NHL history, and his 54 playoff wins rank him 15th all-time.
