BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Eyewitness Sports Anchor Shawn Stepner has learned that Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta has been fined an undisclosed amount for an attempted headbutt last Wednesday.
Kaleta tried to headbutt Devils forward Travis Zajac late in the first period of Buffalo's 1-0 overtime loss at HSBC Arena. Kaleta missed Zajac's head, but made contact with his shoulder during a scrum in front of the benches.
Kaleta was not penalized for the play during the game. Zajac was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing after he pushed Kaleta to the ice.
UPDATE: After practice on Monday October 18th, Kaleta said he was also fined for a charging incident in the same game. Kaleta left his feet when he hit New Jersey defenseman Mark Fraser 8:40 into the first period.
