Free Agency update on Lydman, Tallinder

July 8, 2010 Updated Jul 8, 2010 at 3:36 PM EDT

Buffalo, NY (WKBW.com) With the NHL's free agency period now less then 48 hours away the future remains unclear for Sabres defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman with the team. If not re-signed by Thursday both would become unrestricted free agents and could test the open market.

Larry Kelly, the agent for Lydman, said in an e-mail to Eyewitness Sports on Tuesday that he's been talking with Sabres general manager Darcy Regier since the NHL Draft. Kelly would not speculate on if at this point Lydman would test the open market but did add, "Toni really likes Buffalo".

Don Meehan, the agent for Tallinder, said in an e-mail to Eyewitness Sports on Tuesday "We may very well have further discussions before July 1 and even after. With the (salary) cap being set at 59.4 (million dollars) we believe it will only be favorable to Henrik".

Both Lydman and Tallinder said following the playoffs that they'd like to be back with the Sabres. Lydman joined the Sabres in a trade with Calgary on August 25th, 2005. Tallinder was the Sabres second round draft choice in 1997.
