AMHERST, NY (WKBW) - Sabres winger Thomas Vanek skated in Amherst on Sunday to test his injured left ankle. After skating Vanek told Eyewitness Sports Anchor Shawn Stepner he was still sore and making a little progress. He says the injury is about the same as it has been.

Vanek was walking with a severe limp as he exited the arena.

The Sabres' leading goal scorer was injured in Game Two of Buffalo's Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Series against Boston when he was slashed to the ice by the Bruins' Johnny Boychuk. Vanek slid into the end boards and has not played since.

Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff said Saturday: "We're gonna try and get him involved in some battle drills, which he hasn't been involved in. And we'll get a pretty good idea of where he's at."

The Sabres visit the Bruins for Game Six on Monday.
