BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Goaltender Ryan Miller made 38 saves, and Craig Rivet scored the eventual game winning goal in the second period, as the Sabres beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 at the HSBC Arena. The victory gives the Sabres a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series with the Bruins.

Thomas Vanek opened the scoring for Buffalo in the first period. Vanek took a great feed from Derek Roy, and beat Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask for his sixth goal in the last three games.

The Bruins would even the game in the second period on the power play. Mark Recchi would score off a rebound to tie things up at 1.

The Sabres were outshot 24-to-8 in the second, but Ryan Miller kept the team in it with 23 saves. Game two is back at the HSBC Arena on Saturday afternoon.
