Newark, New Jersey (WKBW.Com) Jamie Langenbrunner scored an empty net goal in the final seconds of regulation to push the New Jersey Devils past the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 on Sunday. The loss means the Sabres finish third in the Eastern Conference and will now host the 6th seeded Boston Bruins in the opening round of the NHL Playoffs.
Thomas Vanek scored the lone goal for the Sabres in the second period, Patrick Lalime was strong in net with 32 saves.
The Sabres went 2-2-2 against Boston during the regular season. The Bruins outscored Buffalo 15-11 in those games.
The Buffalo-Boston match up will be highlighted by a battle of two of the top goaltenders in the NHL. The Bruins Tuukka Rask leads the NHL in save percentage at .931, and goals against average at 1.97. Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller is second at .929, and 2.22.
