CLEVELAND (AP) _ Indians pitcher Jake Westbrook was placed on
the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a strained left
abdominal muscle, and the team called up Fausto Carmona to take his
place in the rotation.
The usually durable Westbrook left Wednesday night's game
against Toronto in the second inning. Westbrook, 1-2 with a 7.90
ERA, hasn't been on the disabled list since 2002. The move is
retroactive to Thursday.
Carmona was sent to Triple-A Buffalo last Tuesday when Cliff Lee
was activated from the disabled list. Cleveland didn't have room
for Carmona in the rotation even though he went 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA
in four starts. He started Monday against Baltimore.
The Indians also recalled Edward Mujica from Triple-A Buffalo,
where he did not allow a run in his first nine appearances and has
a 2.84 ERA with six saves in 11 games.
Jason Davis, who had a 4.76 ERA in eight appearances, was
designated for assignment.
