NEW YORK (AP) - Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is out of the
starting lineup one day after he left a win over the Nationals
because of a sore left ankle.
Ramiro Pena got the start for Wednesday night's game against
Washington.
Jeter left Tuesday's 5-3 victory after seven innings. He went 0
for 3 with a walk and is batting .306 with nine homers and 30 RBIs
in 61 games this season.
Pena replaced Jeter and hit an RBI single in the eighth inning.
Jeter didn't speak to reporters Tuesday night, but manager Joe
Girardi said the captain thought he might have been injured Sunday
when Gary Sheffield of the New York Mets slid into second base
during a double play.
