She leads the team in aces and at times has led them in kills, but it's Lillian Mueller's dominance in another category that has stood out on the Mount Saint Mary volleyball court.

"Defense has really been the specialty where she's earned her rank on this team," said head coach Brittany Schukraft.

Mueller is a senior captain who played on the Varsity squad since she was a sophomore.

She's an outside hitter which means you need to be a good passer, a good digger, and have good ball handling skills. That's a lot to take on.

"I think my teammates help me more than I do because I put a lot of pressure on myself and my teammates really help me through the position," Mueller said.

A lot of pressure yes, but it hasn't bothered Mueller.

Last year, she was a first-team All-Catholic and 2nd team All-Western New York selection and started every single match for the Lady Thunder.

It's her character and love for the school though that backs up all of those awards.

"Not only is she loyal to them and caring and compassionate, but she cooperates and really makes sure that everybody is happy and having a tremendous time this season," added Schukraft.

The Lady Thunder's season unfortunately came to an end in the Monsignor Martin semifinals on Wednesday but Lillian's senior athletic career is ongoing.

As a three sport athlete, she's now gearing up for the bowling alley and plans on using her mentality as an outside hitter to help her next set of teammates.

"Most people can't deal with pressure situations and I kind of calm them down because I know how pressure situations are," she said.
