7 News and Time Warner Cable announced a partnership Thursday that will provide more local sports coverage to fans throughout Western New York.
The deal allows 7 Sports and Time Warner's new sports Channel 13 to share resources and expand their high school sports coverage, including the long-standing "Super 7 Athlete of the Week" franchise and Channel 7's popular Saturday night show, "High School Sports Roundup".
"Their interest in high school sports and college sports on the local level is just as intense as our is," WKBW President and General Manager Bill Ransom said. "Between the two partners, we'll give more coverage to the viewers here in Western New York, who will see more sporting events, which is very exciting."
The partnership also includes Time Warner programming featuring Pro Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, as well as former Sabres Rob Ray and Matt Barnaby.
"I think the level of competition is very good here in Western New York," Thomas said of high school sports in the region. "We want to try and explore that opportunity and give tese kids a chance to get their name out there, so these colleges can know what is going on in Western New York."
Overall, the partnership should help bring more local sports coverage to the Western New York community.
