Phil Valenti hit the game-winning basket with 1.6 seconds to play in regulation to lift Canisius past Duquense 78-77 on Friday night.
The win is not only the first of the season for the Griffs, but the first for new head coach Reggie Witherspoon who was hired by the school in May.
Valenti finished with 14 points, while Jermaine Crumpton scored a team high 18.
Former Niagara Purple Eagle Emile Blackman scored 18 for the Dukes.
