Two former Canisius College hockey players are continuing their careers at the next level.

Ryan Schmelzer, a former forward with the Griffs, has agreed to terms with the Adirondack Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League.

Schmelzer played four seasons with the Griffs and finished his career ranked among the top-10 players in the Division I era of the program in career goals, assists, and points. He was an All-Atlantic Hockey third team selection and a Senior CLASS Award Finalist.

The Thunder are the ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils and the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Devils.

Former Canisius defenseman Jack Stander, meanwhile, signed with the Atlanta Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League.

Stander played four seasons with the Griffs and serves as an assistant captain this season. In his four seasons he compiled six goals and 23 assists.

The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins and the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins.
