Northern Illinois used a 16-0 run to open the fourth quarter to surge past the UB Women's basketball team with an 89-80 win Saturday at Alumni Arena.

Joanna Smith scored 18 of her 22 points in the first half, while Stephanie Reid added a double-double with 18 points and 12 assists.

Reid is now just the fifth player in program history to record more than 400 assists in her career.

Courtney Wilkins chipped in with 18 off the bench.

With the loss, the Bulls fall to 16-7 overall and 6-6 in Mid-American Conference play.

A back-and-forth affair in the first half, the Bulls held a narrow 39-38 halftime lead thanks in part to a lights-out performance from Smith in the opening two quarters.

The senior guard went 7-for-10 from the floor, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
