ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (St. Bonaventure) - St. Bonaventure women’s basketball coach Jim Crowley announced on Thursday the hiring of former player Tiara Johnson as the Director of Basketball Operations for this upcoming season.
“We are thrilled to be able to keep Tiara involved in our program. Over the past three years she has been an incredible leader and teammate,” said Crowley. “She has a great passion for the game and for our program. She completes what I truly believe is a very special staff that will help our program rise to even higher levels.”
As the Director of Basketball Operations, Johnson will assist in the day-to-day operations of the team, including program organization, travel and video exchange.
The Kansas City, Mo., native was a two-year player for the Brown and White after transferring from North Central Missouri College. As a junior she stepped into the starting lineup after no-assistant coach Priscilla Edwards’ injury. She ranked 16th in the A-10 and first among conference guards in rebounds per contest with 6.2. She also finished second on the team in rebounds, assists and field goal percentage.
Johnson missed her senior season due to an injury, but was a helpful asset on the bench. As a team co-captain this past season, she made three starts this season and 32 in her career. She helped lead the Bonnies to their second consecutive WNIT appearance including hitting consecutive three-pointers, to give the Bonnies the final lead they needed to beat Robert Morris in the opening round.
“I am very excited and honored for this amazing opportunity. I have been fortunate enough to play for coach Crowley for three years, so I know the expectations he holds for the team as well as his staff and I am looking forward to be a part of a great staff,” said Johnson. “I am grateful to coach Crowley and extremely proud to continue to be a part of the Bonaventure family.”
Johnson joins first-year assistance coaches Kate Achter and Priscilla Edwards along with newly-appointed associate head coach Jesse Fleming on Crowley’s staff.
