BUFFALO, N.Y. – (Canisius Release) Canisius College Director of Athletics Bill Maher announced today that Tom Parrotta will not return as head coach after six seasons. A national search for Parrotta’s replacement will begin immediately.

“After careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to make a change in the leadership of our men’s basketball program. This decision comes after careful thought to what I believe is in the best interest of our men’s basketball program here at Canisius College,” Maher said. “Tom has worked diligently on behalf of Canisius College and has had a significant impact on our program in a number of areas, and for that, we are grateful. However, our goal is to compete for the MAAC Championship and we have not made sufficient progress toward that goal. I appreciate Tom’s hard work and dedication to our College and the men’s basketball program, and most importantly to our student-athletes. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

In six seasons as the Griffs’ head coach, Parrotta posted a career record of 64-121 and a 30-78 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The team went 5-25 overall and 1-17 in league during the 2011-12 campaign.

The 22nd head coach in Canisius men’s basketball history, Parrotta came to the school prior to the 2006-07 season after coaching at Hofstra University for five years.
