BUFFALO, NY – (WKBW/UB Athletics) University at Buffalo senior point guard Byron Mulkey was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Bulls to a pair of wins last week.
Mulkey was the Bulls' leading scorer in wins over Niagara and Green Bay. Against Niagara, the senior point guard had 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals.
In the Bulls' win over Green Bay, Mulkey scored 21 points (two shy of his career high) and added three rebounds, four assists and a steal. He scored 16 points in the second half to help extend a two-point lead to a 16-point UB advantage.
Mulkey shot 15-of-17 from the free throw line over the two games.
The Wheatfield, NY native is averaging 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. He leads the nation in steals – averaging 3.9 per game.
It marks the first time in Mulkey’s career that he has earned the honor and he is the first UB player this season to be named Player of the Week.
Mulkey shared the honor with Miami forward Julian Mavunga.
