St. Bonaventure University has a new men's head basketball coach, one they believe can help turn things around after a couple of rough seasons.
As expected, the school introduced Mark Schmidt as their new head coach at an afternoon press conference at the Reilly Center. Schmidt spent the last 6 years at Robert Morris, where he posted an 82-90 record. The 44-year old replaces Anthony Solomon and inherits a team that went just 7-22 last season, but Schmidt is looking forward to the challenge of turning things around.
"Some people say this program is down, and it is down," Schmidt said. "But the difference between a thoroughbred and a donkey is when they're both down, they both get kicked, one gets up an runs. The other stays down. We're not gonna stay down."
St. Bonaventure is expecting to return five scholarships players, including two seniors, for new head coach Mark Schmidt next season.
