U.B. Basketball Star In Trouble Off Court

By Steve Barber

U.B. basketball player Andy Robinson is a star on the court. He's a starter and leads the team in scoring. But off the court he is facing big problems. He used the web site Facebook to try to get some one to do his school work. His ad read 30 to 40 bucks to read the book, "There Are No Children Here", and do a paper. It's a move that has the campus talking. "I guess a lot of people in school do that. I've heard.. Someone asked me to write a paper for them like a week ago. But, to put it on Facebook is pretty stupid." said Heather Levenstein. "I think it's done a lot and it is a big deal and it's cheating your way through college." added Becky Ferber.

But the University is quick to point out that Robinson didn't technically cheat, saying he never turned in someone else's work and is taking corrective action. UB is now investigating the incident and has suspended Robinson from all basketball related activity.

His coach Reggie Witherspoon released a statement saying Robinson is remorseful and, "We will evaluate his position on the team based on any University actions, as well as any expectations placed on him by the Division of Athletics and the men's basketball program."

As for Robinson, he released a statement saying, "I realize I made a mistake for which I take full responsibility and realize I must regain the trust of my teammates, fellow student-athletes and coaching staff. I have brought disappointment in myself and the University and for this I am truly sorry."

But some of his fellow students aren't so forgiving saying it's not a big deal, but putting it on face book, on the world wide web is embarrassing. " If he wants to make it so public then he should expect to be punished for it." said Melissa Antaki.
