AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Al Fisher scored 20 points as Kent State
defeated Buffalo 76-66 in Mid-American Conference action Tuesday
night.
Already leading 22-14, Kent State (22-5, 11-2 MAC) took command
of the game midway through the first half with a 13-2 run. Fisher
and Haminn Quaintance had back-to-back dunks during the nine-minute
mark of the half.
A 3-pointer by Mike Scott with 6:16 left in the half capped the
run and gave the Golden Flashes a 34-16 lead.
Buffalo (8-17, 2-11 MAC) was held without a field goal for over
seven minutes during the game's decisive first half. The Bulls
pulled to within eight with 2:40 left in the second half following
an acrobatic scoop shot by Byron Mulkey that capped a quick 8-0 run
but came no closer.
Quaintance finished with 14 points for Kent State, winners of
five straight games and eight of nine. Scott added 13.
The Bulls, who have lost three straight and 12 of their last 14,
were led by Andy Robinson with 17 points. Calvin Betts added 11
points and 11 rebounds.
The game marked Kent State's 1000th win in program history.
