NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. (Niagara Press Release) – Antoine Mason has recently requested, and been granted, permission to pursue options for his final year of eligibility to play NCAA basketball. Mason, who graduated with his bachelor’s degree in finance earlier this month, has one year of eligibility while pursuing a master’s degree.

“I know Antoine enjoyed playing here, and I’m sure this was a difficult decision for him and his family,” said Chris Casey, NU’s men’s basketball coach. “Antoine played a big role in our basketball program for the past four years and we are proud that he earned his bachelor’s degree from Niagara University. Now it is time for us to move forward with the players who are committed to continuing the tremendous legacy of the Niagara University Purple Eagles.”

Niagara will return 10 players from last season’s team, including sophomores Ramone Snowden (8.1 point per game, 5.5 rebounds per game) and Wesley Myers (6.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg), as well as redshirt freshmen Karonn Davis and Dominique Reid. In addition to the returning players, Matt Scott and DayJar Dickson are committed to play at Niagara next season. Scott earned New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) Class A Second Team honors for the 2013-14 season while playing for Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology. Dickson helped Potomac High School (Oxon Hill, Maryland) to a 2014 Maryland 2A State Title.

Antoine Mason finishes his Niagara career as the third all-time leading scorer (1,934), and is 14th all-time in the MAAC. This past year Mason was a preseason All-MAAC First Team selection. He earned post-season honors as a member of the 2013-14 All-MAAC Second Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 1 Second Team.
