August 24, 2012 Updated Aug 24, 2012 at 4:50 PM EDT

AMHERST, NY - University at Buffalo junior linebacker Khalil Mack has been suspended for the season-opener against Georgia following a violation of team policy.

The following statement was issued by University at Buffalo Director of Athletics Danny White regarding Mack:

“I want to express that Khalil Mack is a young man with character and integrity. Regarding this situation, the university has completed its review in accordance with relevant university policies and procedures and athletic department protocol. Because of student privacy laws, we cannot comment on the specifics.

As a result of this process, I have reinstated Khalil Mack to participate in regular team activities, but he will be suspended from playing our first game against Georgia.”

Mack was a first team All-Mac selection in 2011 as a sophomore. He had 65 tackles, including 20.5 tackles for a loss last year. The Bulls open the season on September at Georgia.
