ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (St. Bonaventure) - Michael Adams has resigned as assistant men’s basketball coach at St. Bonaventure effective immediately, St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt announced.
Adams cited family as the reason for his decision. Adams has one son, Michael Jr., who will be a senior in Spring Grove High School in York, Pa.
“This is a decision that I regret to make, but it’s the right one for me and my family,” said Adams. “My son only gets to go through one senior year of high school in his life and I want to make sure I’m there to support him and be a part of it. I want to thank Coach Schmidt and the rest of the St. Bonaventure Department of Athletics for giving me a chance to get back into college basketball and for being very understanding of my decision.”
Adams, who was a teammate of Schmidt’s at Boston College, was hired by St. Bonaventure on May 4 of this year.
“Michael and I have been friends for almost 30 years and while I am obviously disappointed that we won’t be able to coach together, I respect his decision,” said Schmidt. “We wish Michael and his family all the best.
“At the same time, this is a critical position on our staff and we’ve already moved quickly to fill it.”
