Buffalo (WKBW) So what if the first half of Friday night's game was forgettable? After barely a single penalty called over the first period and a half, the Sabres and Bruins had some fireworks in store to finish the night at the First Niagara Center.
Andrej Sekera broke the scoreless tie for the Sabres with a shot he blew right past the ear of Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask in the second period. The game would enter the third period with the score 1-0 Sabres.
But on the powerplay, Mr. Slapshot himself Zdeno Chara ripped a shot that beat Ryan Miller over the shoulder to tie the game at one.
And just like the last two Friday's in a row, the Sabres would need more than regulation time to finish things up.
A scoreless overtime would send the game to a shootout. Each team would go one for three, sending extra shooters to the ice. Derek Roy would deke and shoot a nifty backhand into the net to put the pressure on. And in the final shooter, Boston's Benoit Puliot would shoot high and wide, ending the game with a Buffalo 2-1 victory.
The Sabres now travel to New York City to take on the Conference leading Rangers Saturday night.
