Winnipeg, Canada (WKBW.com) The Sabres had been impressive in the recent run up the standings but Monday night the team ran out of gas in Winnipeg in a 3-1 loss. The setback spoiled an opportunity for the Sabres to jump into 8th place in the Eastern conference.
With the game tied at 1 Blake Wheeler scored the eventual game winning goal for the Jets at 8:02 of the third period. Wheeler skated in on a breakaway and beat Ryan Miller right up under the bar for the 2-1 Winnipeg lead. Former Sabres Chris Thornburn scored his 4th of the season for the Jets at 10:54 in the third.
Corey Tropp was credited with the only Buffalo goal. Tropp tied the game at 1 with his second career goal at 19:25 of the second. Andrew Ladd gave Winnipeg a 1-0 lead at 13:45 of the first period.
The loss snapped the Sabres 3 game winning streak, and ended an otherwise productive west coast trip on a sour note. The Sabres went 3-1 during that west coast swing and now sit 4 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot with 16 games to play. Buffalo hosts Carolina on Wednesday.
