Montreal (WKBW.com) What's this? A Sabres winning streak? Paul Gaustad scored the eventual game winning goal as Buffalo beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Tuesday night. The victory gave the Sabres wins in back-to-back games for the first time since November.

But it wasn't all good news for Sabres fans. Star forward Thomas Vanek left the game in the first period with an "upper body injury" and did not return. Head Coach Lindy Ruff said following the game that Vanek is expected to miss some time with the setback.

The Sabres had to dig out of a 1-0 deficit against Montreal. Ville Leino scored his fourth of the season in the second period to tie the game at 1. Brad Boyes made a fantastic play in the third on the Gaustad goal that gave the Sabres the 2-1 lead. Boyes worked from behind the net out in front before setting up Gaustad with a pass across the crease for the eventual game winner. Pat Kaleta added an empty net goal late in the third.

Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller was solid for a second straight game. Miller made 27 saves in the victory to earn career win 234. That ties Miller with Dominik Hasek for the franchise record for wins.

The Sabres host the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
