BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Another perfect shootout clinched the Sabres third consecutive win. Buffalo edged the New Jersey Devils on Saturday 4-3.
Sabres captain Jason Pominville opened the scoring and gave his team the lead in the second period scoring a shorthanded goal. However Steve Bernier got a fortunate deflection off a point shot to tie the game about two minutes later.
It stayed tied at one into the third period. That's when Adam Henrique beat Ryan Miller on a shorthanded breakaway to give Jersey a 2-1 lead. But less than two minutes later, Pominville struck again. He beat Johan Hedberg to tie the game at two.
The back-and-forth continued until about midway through the third. Jochen Hecht scored his first goal since December of 2011 to give Buffalo a one-goal lead. The Devils once again had the answer. Andrei Loktionov tallied to knot the game at three less than two minutes after Hecht's goal.
The game would skate scoreless through overtime.
Pominville and Tyler Ennis scored for the Sabres in the shootout. Miller stopped both Ilya Kovalchuk and Henrique.
Miller made 28 saves in the contest.
Sabres winger Thomas Vanek missed the game with an upper-body injury. Brian Flynn made his NHL debut for Buffalo.
The Sabres have now won three straight games for the first time this season. They visit the New York Rangers on Sunday night.
