TORONTO, ONTARIO (WKBW) - The Sabres playoff hopes took a major blow on Saturday night as Buffalo lost to the Maple Leafs 4-3. The Sabres trail the eighth-place Washington Capitals by two points with three games to play. The Caps hold the tiebreakers.

Joey Crabb scored on a shorthanded breakaway in the first period.

After Tyler Ennis tied the game at one in the second period, Phil Kessel (power play) and John-Michael Liles tallied to give Toronto a two-goal lead heading into the intermission. Liles' goal was scored with 0.7 seconds remaining in the second period.

In the third period Ville Leino was able to beat goalie Ben Scrivens to cut the Leafs lead to one goal. However Matt Frattin regained the two-goal advantage when he scored about midway through the final frame.

Drew Stafford notched his 20th goal of the season with 2:45 left in the contest.

Ryan Miller made 25 saves and took the loss. Scrivens stopped 29 shots for the win.

The Sabres host the Leafs on Tuesday.
