NEWARK, NJ (WKBW) - The Buffalo Sabres let a two-goal third period lead slip away en route to a 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
The Devils' Patrick Elias scored the game-tying goal with 1:06 to go in regulation. Buffalo backup goalie Jhonas Enroth was hurt on the play and had to exit the game. Following the contest Enroth said he suffered from a muscle cramp as he tried to make the save. Enroth added he will be fine.
Thomas Vanek and Brian Flynn scored for Buffalo. Vanek's was his 13th of the season and came on the power play. Flynn's was the first of his NHL career.
Adam Henrique scored for Jersey with 6:30 left in the third period. Elias' goal sent things to overtime.
After a scoreless OT, the Sabres went to a shootout for the fourth time in five games. Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville failed to score on Johan Hedberg. The Devils goalie made 23 saves in the game.
David Clarkson and Elias scored on Ryan Miller.
The Sabres next visit Philadelphia on Sunday night.
