BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The Buffalo Sabres are skidding into the new year. They dropped their third straight game, and sixth of their last seven, on Saturday night. Buffalo lost to the Ottawa Senators 3-2 in a shootout.

Sabres forward Brad Boyes opened the scoring with a power play goal 4:06 into the game.

After the Senators hit four goalposts in the first period (they hit six in the game), they finally beat Buffalo netminder Jhonas Enroth when Matt Carkner scored 1:55 into the middle frame.

Buffalo's Paul Gaustad gave the home team the one-goal lead again 1:32 later when he deflected a Jordan Leopold point shot past Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson.

The game was tied minutes later when Chris Neil skated behind Sabres defenseman T.J. Brennan and beat Enroth with a backhand shot. Brennan was called up from AHL Rochester earlier on Saturday.

Bobby Butler scored the game-winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout.

Jhonas Enroth made 44 saves in the loss.

The Sabres next host the Oilers on Tuesday.
