BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Derek Roy is back with his team, just not on the ice. The injured Sabres center returned to HSBC Arena on Monday for the first time since suffering a torn quadriceps tendon in late December.
"It's a great feeling to see the guys," said Roy. "I kind of got nervous coming down to the rink today for some reason. It's just great to be around the guys."
Roy, who is now walking with a cane, was hurt on December 23rd against Florida. He is expected to miss 4 to 6 months but is not ruling himself out to a return this spring.
"I'm even shooting for the end of the season," said Roy. "We don't want to hurt it or anything. We don't want to overkill it but we'll just try to speed it up and hopefully we can make the playoffs and I'll be there helping out."
Roy believes this had been his best season as a pro. He still leads the Sabres with 35 points.
