BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) The Sabres played from behind for most of Friday night's matchup against the Dallas Stars. But that didn't matter, because the Sabres skated off the ice with a victory.
After taking a penalty in the first period, a Michael Ryder tip put the Stars on the board 1-0. After a Sabres giveaway, Tomas Vincour put home another goal to double the lead.
Thomas Vanek returned to the Sabres lineup Friday night against the Dallas Stars, and made an immediate impact. Vanek tipped in a Jason Pominville shot for his 20th goal of the season.
The game would go all the way to the final minute with the Stars in the lead. With the Sabres net empty, a Tyler Meyers shot found Derek Roy alone in the goal crease, and Roy would pound home the game tying goal with 39 seconds left.
With time running out in overtime, Thomas Vanek was robbed in front of the game-winner by the Dallas goaltender, and the game would go to a shootout.
In extra shooters, Nathan Gerbe would score on a backhand, leaving the game up to Ryan Miller. Michael Ryder would shoot and strike iron, but not go in, as Ryan Miller would help the Sabres to finish the night with two points.
Next up for the Sabres, a date against the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday night at home.
