The Goo Goo Dolls' "Better Days" is the Sabres theme song for this playoff run. Home games open with a video that captures how Western New York embraces the team. Now other local musicians are getting into the act of trying to express the town's love for the team through music.

A song called "Game Time" by Perpendicular is getting some radio play, while the band promotes the song on their myspace page. Eddie Haskill's "Sabres' Anthem" is making the rounds on local blogs.

Several dozen songwriters competed in radio station 97 Rock's Sabres song contest. The entries ranged from the catchy to the unusual.

It was Anthony Casuccio, a teacher at Villa Maria College, with the winning entry--an upbeat catchy tune called "Bring the Cup to Buffalo". "I wasn't going to enter at all," says Casuccio, "I didn't know what to write and I was like, 'We need to bring this cup to Buffalo.' That's what it's all about--pride, winning, so I came up with the chorus, 'Bringing the Cup to Buffalo' and wrote the song from there."

Casuccio offer this advice for other aspiring Sabres songwriters: "It just spoke from within, so I guess that's it. Be yourself, write a good song and the rest will follow suit."

Casuccio says he'd love for the Sabres to use his winning song in some way, and he sends out an offer to the organization. He's willing to perform the song live at one of the pre-game parties in the plaza. No word yet on whether or not the Sabres will take him up on his offer.
