Eyewitness Sports Anchor Shawn Stepner has confirmed that the Buffalo Sabres have signed free agent defenseman Joe DiPenta to a one-year contract.
The 30-year-old Barrie, Ontario native played for Vastra Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League last season. His last full NHL campaign was with the Anaheim Ducks, during their Stanley Cup run, in 2006-2007.
DiPenta's NHL totals include: 174 games, six goals, 17 assists, and 110 penalty minutes.
The 6'2'', 199 pound blueliner will most likely play for the Sabres' AHL affiliate in Portland next season.
