Gee breaks Bisons Record

August 18, 2010 Updated Aug 18, 2010 at 8:00 PM EDT

Buffalo - (Bisons/WKBW.com) Buffalo Bisons RHP DILLON GEE has broken the Herd’s modern era single-season mark for strikeouts. Gee recorded his 138th strikeout of the season in the 2nd inning of Buffalo’s game against the Rochester Red Wings tonight

The Bisons previous season-single record for strikeouts in a season was 137, set in 1990 by RHP Vicente Palacios.

Gee’s record breaking strikeout was against Red Wings’ catcher Jose Morales. With a 1-2 pitch, Gee threw a 75 mph off speed pitch past the swinging Morales. Gee tied the modern era record with a first-inning strike out of Dustin Martin.

Gee entered Wednesday’s game with an International League-best 136 strikeouts seven more than Charlotte’s RHP Carlos Torres. The righty’s previous career high for punchouts was 114, set in 2008 in 25 starts between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton.

Gee has struck out at least six batters in 11 of his 24 starts this season. He struck out 11 batters in 6.2 innings of work in Rochester on July 10. That performance was the Bisons first 11-strikeout outing since RHP Jason Bere on May 17, 2003. Gee also struck out nine on May 28 against Toledo and August 7 against Columbus.

Gee entered Friday’s game with a 12-7 record and a 4.77ERA.
