Chiefs Stampede Herd

By WKBW Sports

SYRACUSE, NY (Bisons.com) - The Chiefs scored seven unanswered runs to come back and beat the Herd, 7-3, Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.
Bisons' starter Lance Broadway cruised through six innings allowing just one unearned run on four hits, but ran into trouble in the seventh. The Chiefs hit for the cycle in the inning as they erased a 3-1 deficit and took the lead for good.

Daryle Ward led off the frame with a solo home run to left cutting the Bisons lead to one. Justin Maxwell followed with a double but was still standing on second base with two outs, when Norris Hopper singled him home to tie the game. Pete Orr greeted Jon Switzer, who relieved Broadway, with a two-run triple off the top of the wall in right field plating the final two runs of the inning.

The Bisons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after three and a half innings, scoring single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings.

The Chiefs, more specifically, shortstop Ian Desmond gift wrapped the Herd's first run, committing two errors in the second inning that allowed the Bisons to score without recording a hit in the inning.

In the third, a Nick Evans triple plated Argenis Reyes from first. Twelve of Evans' 21 hits in August have gone for extra-bases as Evans has six doubles, two triples and four home runs to go along with 13RBI this month. Going back to July, 19 of Evans' last 36 hits have gone for extra-bases (10 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs).

Syracuse added insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Gustavo Molina.

Chip Ambres' 10-game hit streak was snapped as the outfielder went 0-for-4 on Wednesday.

The Chiefs have had the Bisons number this year. With Wednesday's loss Buffalo is just 2-10 against the Chiefs this season.

Buffalo and Syracuse head down the thruway for a two-day, four-game series at Coca-Cola Field on Thursday and Friday. The first pitch of game one on Thursday is set for 1:05 p.m.
