Bisons Fall to Rochester in Series Finale

By WKBW Sports

(BISONS) The Red Wings used a four-run eighth inning to pull away from the Bisons and take the rubber game of the five-game series, 8-4, Thursday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.
The Herd fought back from an early four-run deficit, tying the game at four with a three-run fourth inning. But the game wouldn't stay tied for long. In the fifth, Wings' shortstop Trevor Plouffe hit a long home run over the left-center field wall of Herd starter, Adam Pettyjohn, putting Rochester back in front, 5-4.

The four-run eighth for the Wings, highlighted by a deep, two-run home run by David Winfree, put the game out of reach.

Coming off eight shutout innings his last start in Columbus, Pettyjohn was roughed up early on Thursday.

The Wings jumped on the southpaw in the first inning. Five of the first six hitters reached base and Danny Valencia and Winfree each plated two runs with base hits giving Rochester the early 4-0 edge.

Pettyjohn settled down after the first inning, allowing just two Wings to reach base until the Plouffe home run with one out in the fifth.

The Bisons got a run back in the first on an Andy Green double and strung four hits in a row to score three times in the fourth off Wings' starter, and former Met, Philip Humber. Chip Ambres delivered the key hit, lacing a double over the head of Steven Tolleson in center field that sent Nick Evans and Mike Lamb scampering to the plate.

Unfortunately for the Herd they never mounted another rally after the fourth. Humber, Rob Delaney and Anthony Slama combined to allow just two hits over the final five innings.

The Herd welcome the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to town for a four-game
