Bisons Fall into Mud(hens)

By WKBW Sports

TOLEDO, OHIO (Bisons.com) - The Mud Hens brought their bats back to Fifth Third Field on Sunday, while the Bisons did not.
The Mud Hens hit two more home runs and Chris Lampert shut down the Bisons offense as Buffalo fell to Toledo, 6-1, Sunday night at Fifth Third Field.

A day after pounding five home runs and scoring 11 runs the Toledo offense was back at it again. Mike Hessman hit a mammoth, solo home run in the third and Don Kelly followed with a two-run shot in the fifth that gave the Mud Hens a 5-0 lead. Hessman's blast was the 303rd home run of his minor league career.

The Bisons offense, fresh off a 15-hit, 10-run performance of their own Saturday night, managed only seven hits, six of which were singles. Lampert struck out nine Bisons and allowed just one walk in 8.1 strong innings.

Buffalo's threatened in the first inning when Jesus Feliciano reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Dane Sardinha with one out. But Nick Evans struck out and Chip Ambres' grounded out after a Mike Lamb walk to end the inning.

The Herd offense was silent until the eighth when they put the first two batters aboard. However, the Bisons failed to move them around as a strikeout, pop out and ground out got Lampert and the Mud Hens out of trouble.

Buffalo finally broke through for a run in the ninth on Javier Castillo's RBI double that scored Mike Lamb from first.

Adam Pettyjohn made his first start for the Bisons after picking up the win, throwing three scoreless innings of relief on July 29 against Pawtucket. The southpaw suffered the loss tossing six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, and struck out four.

Toledo put two runs on the board in the first on sacrifice flies by Hessman and Jeff Frazier.

Game three of the four-game series is scheduled for Monday night with Ken Takahashi squaring off against Toledo's Eddie Bonine. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.

BISONS NOTES:
Jesus Feliciano's nine-game hit streak was snapped on Sunday. Despite the 0-for-4, Feliciano is still among the league's best hitters, batting .311 on the year.
