A fantastic pitching duel between Buffalo's Jason Stanford and Rochester's Francisco Liriano lived up to its billing, but the Wings had a little more offense to collect the 3-2 victory from Frontier Field.

Stanford has been fantastic for Buffalo since signing with the Indians on April 24. The Bisons Modern Era Strikeout King posted a 1.15ERA in his first three outings and was strong again for the Herd on Saturday.

Stanford added five strikeouts to his franchise-high total that now stands at 304. He seemed to cruise through the middle innings after allowing a solo homerun to Randy Ruiz in the second.

But the Red Wings tied the score at 2-2 off of Stanford in the sixth inning. Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to right field to cash in former Bison, Darnell McDonald from third.

Rochester scored the game-winning run in the following inning as Howie Clark tripled home a run off reliever Bubbie Buzachero (1-2). Clark was thrown out on the play as he tried to stretch it into an inside-the-park homerun, but the damage was done.

Buffalo, meanwhile, was facing Liriano, a former All-Star with the Minnesota Twins on the road to recovery from Tommy John Surgery. It took some time, but the Herd finally got to the southpaw in the fifth inning. Wyatt Toregas doubled in Jason Tyner before scoring himself on a two-out single from Danny Sandoval.

Game three of the series will be Sunday afternoon with Matt Ginter taking the ball for Buffalo.

BISONS NOTES:Former Bisons pitcher Danny Graves was promoted from Double-A New Britain to the Red Wings before the game. Graves pitched the ninth inning to collect the save for Rochester...Jason Tyner had a bunt single to extend his hit streak to 10 games. That ties him with Danny Sandoval for the team-high this season...Wyatt Toregas has reached base safely in 17 of his last 18 games.
