The Cardale Jones era is officially over.

The Bills announced they traded the quarterback to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Jones, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft, played in one game.  He saw action in the second half of Buffalo's Week 17 30-10 loss to the New York Jets.

He completed 6 of 11 passes and threw an interception.

It's not necessarily all bad news for Jones.  He'll reunited with Anthony Lynn, who served as the Bills interim head coach during that Week 17 game after firing of Rex Ryan.

Lynn was named the Chargers head coach in January.

The QB, who led Ohio State to the National Championship in 2015, was viewed as a project when selected 139th overall.

While many scouts believed he had the arm strength to be a NFL quarterback, Jones was raw in his development.

Jones would have likely been competing for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart along with Nathan Peterman, who was selected in the fifth round by new head coach Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane.  Peterman was viewed by many experts as the "most NFL ready" quarterback prospect in the draft.

The Bills also reportedly met with Marcus McDade, who recently played in the European Football League.
