Pittsford (WKBW) A day after being held out of practice with what the Bills called a "sore foot," defensive end Mario Williams was nowhere to be found during the second workout of training camp. Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone revealed after practice that Williams had left campus to be further evaluated by team doctors.
Marrone admitted he was surprised by the news of the injury on Sunday. Williams had passed his physical prior to the start of camp. "We were ready to go", said Marrone. The exact cause of the injury remains unclear. Marrone says no timetable has been established for Williams return.
Other Notes -
-QB EJ Manuel was the first one through reps with the first team on Monday. His best throw of the day came on a deep ball to fellow rookie Robert Woods. Woods layed out for one in the endzone. It looked for a moment like he hauled it in, but video replay showed afterwards that he bobbled it a bit. Woods admitted to me after practice he thought it was close. Still a great effort by the rookie on the play. Woods is already opening some eyes at camp.
-I was putting together stories for the early newcast so I missed the late period of team drills but Kevin Kolb was still taking several more reps then Manuel on Monday. My numbers had Kolb talking 10 reps to Manuels 6 through the first two sessions.
-I spoke with DT Kyle Williams earlier in the day. Williams, who is on the comeback trail from his second achilles surgery told me that he was feeling good and that he was "not far' from a full return to practice. He's been limited so far at camp.
