Report: Evans trade may be close

August 11, 2011 Updated Aug 11, 2011 at 8:42 PM EDT

Buffalo (WKBW.com) ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Thursday night, citing an unidentified source, that the Bills are now open to trading veteran WR Lee Evans. The report claims that Evans could be moved within the next 48 hours.

There have been rumors and speculation surrounding Evans future in Buffalo ever since reports surfaced this week of teams showing interest in the former 1st round pick. A radio station in Arizona recently reported that the Cardinals were interested in acquiring Evans.

Bills GM Buddy Nix had this to say about the situation Thursday morning on Sirius NFL Radio. The quote was posted on BuffaloBills.com.

"Nothing has changed with Lee. He’s still a Bill,” said Nix. ”We expect him to play and do well. We are counting on him. I would think that something would be wrong if teams were not interested in Lee Evans. "

Nix continued, "Everybody can count and see that we have a lot of young receivers and I think they speculate a lot, but as far as I’m concerned and as far as I know a speculation is all it is."

“I will say this. We’re always looking to improve and upgrade our team, whatever it takes.

Evans was the first of two first round picks for the Bills in 2004. He had a career low 37 catches in 2010.
