Bills bench Edwards, Fitzpatrick to start against Pats

Orchard Park (WKBW.com/Jeff Russo) Following two straight ineffective performances by the Bills offense, Head Coach Chan Gailey decided he'd seen enough of quarterback Trent Edwards.
Gailey benched Edwards on Monday. Ryan Fitzpatrick will now get the start against New England, and beyond.

"As I said the other day, we're always looking for the right combinations to get this team on the right track", Gailey said on Monday. "We're going to make a change at quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start this week, he'll take the reins and see where that takes us."

The move comes on the heels of the Bills 34-7 loss at Green Bay on Sunday. Edwards finished 11-of-18 passing for 102 yards in the loss. He was also sacked four times, and was intercepted twice.
"The implication might be that it's all Trent's fault, and that's not the case.", said Gailey. "We've got a lot of things to work on. It's not the case at all. We're just looking to try to get the right combination going with personnel that maybe fits better with Ryan."

Fitzpatrick appeared in 10 games for the Bills in 2010, starting in 8. He finished with 1,422 yards passing, 9 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

"I'm excited about the opportunity", said Fitzpatrick on Monday. "Obviously we have a lot of work to do. We've got to correct a lot of things from the last few weeks and we've got a tough opponent this week in New England, but I'm really excited for challenge and excited to get out there.".

Gailey says it's Fitzpatrick's job moving forward, not just for one week. Edwards will be the backup for the Bills in New England this Sunday.
