Head Coach Chan Gailey
Practice – August 21, 2010

On his reaction to TE Shawn Nelson’s suspension:

I always hate it when that kind of situation happens. You hate it for your football team, you hate it for the individual involved. That’s part of our process today. You have to go by the rules, and you pay for it when you don’t.

On whether Shawn Nelson is okay to practice:

Yeah, he’s okay to practice.

On why Shawn Nelson didn’t play in Thursday’s game:

He was injured. He pulled a muscle the other day in practice, so he didn’t play.

On TE Derek Schouman’s health:

Schouman is going to be out for a while. I don’t know how long, but he’s going to be out for a while. The guy can’t get a break. He just can’t stay on the field. He’s not getting enough reps. He’s got a lot of making up to do when he gets back. But it’s going to be anywhere from three to six [weeks].

On whether the team is looking into acquiring a TE given Shawn Nelson’s suspension and Schouman’s injury:

Yeah, we’re checking out everything. Buddy [Nix] is looking for everybody that’s out there and available, and we’re going to try to make a good decision about who to come in here and be a part of this thing.

On whether LB Reggie Torbor is healthy:

No, Torbor’s out for a while. I don’t know what the prognosis is exactly. They’re doing more tests today. But I know he’s out for three weeks, probably.

On whether he got hurt in Thursday’s game:

Yeah, he got hurt in the game.

On whether WR Marcus Easley had surgery:

Yes, he had surgery, and it’ll be a while before he gets back.

On whether he had a chance to look at tape of QB Brian Brohm from Thursday’s game:

Yeah, he did a good job. He did nothing that would make you think that he couldn’t do the job down the line. I was impressed with how he handled himself in the ball game. He made some good decisions and some good throws.

On whether RB Marshawn Lynch and WR David Nelson are making progress in their recoveries:

Yeah, they all are making progress, to be honest with you. [WR James] Hardy’s making progress. We hope to have a couple of those back this week.

On whether Hardy has a chance to play this week:

Yeah, he does.

On whether Kyle Williams is banged up or just had a rest day:

He got banged up in the game, but it’s minor. He’ll be back.

On whether the quarterback rotation will continue:

Yeah, we’ll continue to rotate those guys through and evaluate that on a practice by practice, week by week situation.

On whether there is a spot for both QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and QB Brian Brohm on the final roster:

Yeah, there is. You keep three [quarterbacks], and that’s two. So yeah, there is.
