ORCHARD PARK, NY - (WKBW) The Buffalo Bills have ended their 2011 preseason with a 1-and-3 record. The Bills lost their preseason finale to the Detroit Lions on Thursday by the final of 16-6.
The bright spot for the Bills was the play of linebacker Shawne Merriman. Out since the preseason opener with at groin injury, Merriman returned to the lineup to play seven plays against the Lions. He registered two tackles.
The Bills starting offense saw seven plays as well. C.J. Spiller broke off a 27-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled to produce anything with his receivers. Fitzpatrick ended the night with two completions on five attempts for minus-1 yard.
Lions receiver Maurice Stovall scored a 16-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Detroit kicker Jason Hanson added field goals in the second, third and fourth quarter before Bills running back Bruce Hall scored a one-yard touchdown with 4:05 left in regulation. The following two-point conversion try failed.
The Bills open the regular season on September 11th in Kansas City.
