Montour NLL Player of Week

By Buffalo Bandits

BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 12, 2008) --- Buffalo Bandits goaltender Ken Montour was named both the NLL’s Overall and Defensive Player of the Week after recording 49 saves in Buffalo’s 11-7 victory over the Minnesota Swarm last Saturday at HSBC Arena. Since getting his first start in place of starter Mike Thompson, the 28-year-old has gone 3-1. Montour is 3-3 overall, and leads the league in both goals against average (9.63) and save percentage (81.9%).

Teammate Mark Steenhuis was named Transition Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. The 27-year-old right-hander scored two goals, including the game-winner, along with three assists on Saturday. Steenhuis also scooped nine loose balls for the Bandits, bringing his team-high total to 79 for the season. Steenhuis is second in league scoring with 61 points in 11 games, just two behind teammate John Tavares’ 63. His 26 goals are also second in the league to the 35 scored by Philadelphia’s Athan Iannucci.

Steenhuis, Tavares and Chris White will be representing the Bandits at the NLL All-Star Game this Sunday in Edmonton. Game time is 4 p.m. EDT. This will be the seventh appearance for Tavares, fourth for Steenhuis, and first for White.

The Bandits are off this weekend, and don’t return to action until Saturday, March 22 when the Toronto Rock make their only visit of the season to HSBC Arena.
