Buffalo (WKBW) Head Coach Lindy Ruff may have put it best on Thursday night. Over the last couple of weeks his team had found ways to lose. Thursday the Sabres finally found a way to win.
Thomas Vanek forced overtime on his second goal of the night with only 1.9 seconds to play, and Jason Pominville scored the eventual winner, as the Buffalo Sabres knocked off the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in the shootout.
Both of Vanek's goals came in the third period to help the Sabres erase a two-goal deficit in dramatic fashion. The win snapped a three game losing streak. Buffalo is now 4-6-1 on the year.
Ryan Miller had 28 saves on the night. Steve Ott and Tyler Ennis both had goals in the victory.
The Sabres are at the NY Islanders on Saturday.
