ROCHESTER (WKBW) Former Buffalo Sabres captain Thomas Vanek is being questioned by federal investigators as they look into an illegal gambling business in Rochester.

Last month, a grand jury indicted three men with conducting of an illegal gambling business. Vanek is not being charged with a crime and voluntarily appeared in Rochester federal court on Monday.

In a statement released to Eyewitness News on Monday Vanek said: "Representatives from the US federal government have asked for my cooperation in an investigation. I'm not the subject of any investigation or prosecution. I will fully cooperate with US federal authorities in their investigation or in any proceedings arising out of it."

The winger played nine seasons for the Sabres, before being traded last season. Vanek then had stops with the NY Islanders and Montreal Canadiens, and signed a three year contract with the Minnesota Wild earlier in July.
